Rock Your socks reminds people that things that are different are still beautiful and wonderful. Wear your brightly colored and mismatched socks as a conversation piece to raise awareness about Down Syndrome on Thursday, March 21. March 21st was chosen because the karyotype of Down Syndrome chromosomes actually looks like a pair of mismatched socks, and it is celebrated 3/21 because it is 3 copies of the 21st chromosome instead of 2 copies! Recently, Siuslaw Elementary School Music Teacher Amanda Sarles was recognized with the Oregon Music Educator Association Excellence in Elementary Music Education ​Award!
​​In preparation for Read Across America Week & Kindness Month, Natalie Gibson's 2nd grade students visited the SHS Library Podcasting studio to record a read aloud of the book Try a Little Kindness by Henry Cole.  Students practiced being good digital citizens and using technology to amplify voices.  Students also enjoyed a virtual field trip to the Oregon Coast Humane Society, a read aloud by Mrs. Flosi, and #Makerspace activities while in the SHS Library!

Siuslaw High School's Health Occupations class is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on February 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the auxiliary gym.   Follow these steps to sign up for an appointment.  ​1) Go to: redcrossblood.org  2) Hover on Donate Blood and then click Schedule appointment.  3) Type in zip code: 97439  4) Click on See Times under the Blood Drive date of December 12.  5) Next to the times, there are open spots that say "Blood" or "Power Red," which you can click to schedule your appointment.   6) Create new account if you don't have an existing one.   What is Power Red? Eligible individuals with types O, A negative, and B negative blood are urged to make a Power Red donation where available.
Siuslaw High School is hosting a Spring Financial Aid and Scholarship Meeting on Thursday, February 22, at 6 p.m.   Seniors and parents/guardians are invited.   Topics that will be covered include FAFSA, Oregon Promise, Siuslaw Regional Scholarship Application, Geraldine Bagley Scholarship, Ford Family Foundation Scholarship, and more!
National School Counseling Week 2024 is being celebrated this week, February 5 through February 9. The focus of this special week is to recognize how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
