Florence Elks Hoop Shoot competition is Saturday, January 11. Event will be held at the Siuslaw Middle School gymnasium. Boys and Girls from Florence, Mapleton and Reedsport, ages 8 - 13, will compete in a free throw contest. This event starts at 9:00am with registration at 8:30am. Anticipated to last a couple of hours.
Contestants will compete in one of six divisions:
Boys: ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13
Girls: ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13
Those eligible to participate are required to be 8 years old on or before April 1, 2020 and cannot become 14 on or before April 1, 2020.
Florence Elk Members will be the officials supervising the warm ups and the contest. The most hoops completed in 25 attempts will determine the winners in each division. This will determine first, second and third place winners in the boys and girls in each division. If there is a tie in any of the top three spots then the contenders compete in tie breaker rounds of five shots each until there are three clear winners in each age group. These first place winners may be eligible for advancement to the next level of competition of District in Tillamook. Competition continues on to the state level and finally to the National finals in Chicago, IL.
