Hybrid Classes

Dear Siuslaw Families,

Thank you for your patience as we have worked to develop a plan that we believe best supports students as our school considers re-opening under Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidelines.  SHS anticipates our ability to re-open in a hybrid schedule, due to the reduction in COVID-19 positive case rates, starting the week of March 8th.  Our staff are excited to welcome students back on campus for instruction!

This shift to hybrid will cause class times to change over the course of the day and week, but should not affect a student’s overall class schedule or the ability to access any of the academic opportunities we have to offer at SHS while maintaining cohorts that are within the state guidelines.  Next week, you will receive more information regarding your student’s specific cohort assignment, daily schedule, and new procedures via physical mail and email.

If you indicated you had an interest in your student participating in in-person learning, they have been assigned to either a Blue (A) or Gold (B) Cohort.  The cohorts that have been created are critical in ensuring that we maintain the cohort sizes that meet RSSL guidelines and are necessary to preserve student schedules and class options for all.  Regardless of which cohort your student is assigned, they will be on campus (in-person) either Monday and Tuesday morning or Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8:00am – 11:18am.  On the days that your student is not on campus for in-person instruction they will be attending classes in the afternoon from 12:20pm – 3:07pm (Ex: If your student attended in-person classes in the morning on Monday and Tuesday, they would attend virtually in the afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday).  There will be no in-person classes for either cohort on Fridays, instead both cohorts will be in all of their classes virtually from 8am-12pm.  All students coming to school in-person will need to be masked and maintain 6ft of distance between themselves and others.

If you have not indicated an interest in having your student in-person, your student will continue in CDL.  A student continuing in CDL would attend classes virtually Monday-Thursday from 12:20pm – 3:07pm and on Friday from 8am – 12pm.

Again, we appreciate your patience and will provide additional information in the coming days.  Also, please review the screening questionnaire attached to this email as you will need to ensure that your student doesn’t have any of the symptoms that would keep them from coming to school.  If you have any questions, please contact the school at (541) 997-3448.

Thank you,

Garth Gerot
