My name is Terah Cleveland. I am delighted to be your student's first grade teacher this 2017-18 school year. This is my fourth year at Siuslaw Elementary School, but my seventh year as a teacher.
I come to Florence from Wisconsin. Although I grew up in Eugene and am a Churchill High School alum, I completed my undergraduate degree on the frozen shores of Lake Superior at Northland College. Soon after graduation, I served in AmeriCorps teaching three-year-old preschool to homeless children at the YWCA in Birmingham, Alabama. When my service ended, I relocated to Wisconsin where I taught first 6-8 grade science, and then once again three-year-old preschool at the Children's Nature Academy at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Soon I started to miss home and after the birth of my son Aiden, I returned to Oregon.
During my first year at Siuslaw, I taught fifth grade. It was a wonderful experience, but my heart belongs in primary. I absolutely love being a first grade teacher! My educational philosophy has a backbone that rests on the belief that students need a solid foundation. I am committed to giving my first graders the tools they need to succeed in school while empowering them to be lifelong learners.
I live in Eugene with my other half Tom and my four year old son Aiden. We have two cats named Minnie and Prince and two escape-inclined chickens named Tweet and Bawkadoo. When not at home, our family is often found in the woods. We love to hike and explore our natural world. We are blessed to call such a beautiful state our home.
I look forward to getting to know you and your student this school year!
