HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS

ASL

This club is a place where students share the collective goal of learning and understanding the basics of American Sign Language. We meet to discuss the deaf culture, communicate with our hands, and have fun! There is also the ASL Google Classroom available for students or staff who want to practice or learn ASL at their own pace or use the games and videos in their classroom.

Business of Art

  • Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30 to 5 p.m.

  • Art Classrooms

  • Advisor: Ms. Keppol

Our emphasis is on the Business of Art; although, we have time to work on art projects, too! Contact Ms. Keppol for more information.

D20 (Tabletop Games)

This after-school club is intended to provide a space for high school students to play and share various "tabletop" games as well as engage with others who share a passion for imagination, strategy, and friendly competition. While we might be including other games in the future, our focus is on checkers, chess, Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and several board games.

Any student who is interested should fill out our D20 Interest Form by clicking here.

E-Sports

Siuslaw E-Sports' inaugural season was 2021-2022. We have two competing teams. The first is in Apex Legends. They compete in a weekly floating competitive platform with other schools west of the Rockies. The second team is a Super Smash Bros. team. They compete in a formal league on the PlayVS Platform.

The next season will not only include these two games but there are about a dozen more game titles in which we can compete, including Overwatch, Mario Kart, Minecraft, Halo, Fortnite, and MORE!

GSA

The GSA Club (Gay Strait Alliance / Gender Sexualities Alliance) at SHS is a student-led club that provides a safe and welcoming space for any student who wants to talk about issues related to sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. We do fun activities, watch movies, eat snacks, and talk about what's going on in our lives. Everyone is welcome to join regardless of identity.

Interact

  • Some Fridays at lunch

  • Culinary Classroom

  • Advisors: Bob Teeter & Lori Gates

Interact Clubs bring together young people ages 12 to 18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun. Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year. One that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. Rotary Club sponsors mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.

Key Club

Key Club members around the world are learning how to lead and stand for what's right through service and volunteerism. In partnership with their local Kiwanis Club, high school students are making a positive impact as they serve others in their schools and communities.

Knitting

  • Mondays at lunch

  • Ms. Johnson's classroom

  • Advisor: Ms. Johnson

The SHS Knitting Club makes knitted hats to donate to people in need in our community. Everyone is welcome to join. You do not need to know how to knit--we will teach you!

Contact Ms. Johnson for more information.

National Honor Society (NHS)

Students in grades 10–12 who meet the requirements for membership outlined by our school’s chapter are eligible to be invited for membership. You can become a member through a local selection process that concludes with induction into the school's NHS chapter. Through exclusive resources, programs, and services, members have a unique opportunity to prepare for college and career pursuits. Membership truly lays the groundwork for lifelong success.
