Siuslaw High School is hosting a Student Career Fair for ninth through twelfth-grade students on Friday, March 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Student participants will have the opportunity to visit booths from vendors, submit an application and/or a resume, and interview for part-time jobs, seasonal work, and other youth apprenticeships. This event will allow students to present themselves professionally, participate in on-spot interviews and gain feedback from our area employers, while assisting with our seasonal recruitment needs. If you are a local business looking to recruit and train for the upcoming season, you are invited to participate in this FREE event. Tables will be provided for vendors, along with an open audience of candidates who will circulate throughout the event. All seniors need to submit their senior portraits via email to Mr. Perry by Friday, January the 19th in order to ensure they’ll be in the yearbook. You have two options Option 1: Free Photo Mr. Perry or a member of the yearbook staff can take an excellent, high-quality photo for the senior to use for the yearbook's senior portrait section. Our suggestion is for the senior to wear a nice shirt/top for this photo. Option 2: Professional Photo Seniors may also choose a professional photographer to take portraits. The photographer should submit a head/shoulders shot for this section of the yearbook. The yearbook staff would appreciate a digital copy to ensure a quality print. It is imperative that seniors not wait to have this photo taken. Professional photographers often have very busy schedules that will not allow for a quick turnaround. If the senior chooses this option, it is important to schedule the photo shoot with the photographer early in the school year. In the past, students have brought in "selfies" or photos from Facebook or other social media. These photographs are not of a satisfactory quality and will not be published. Below are the specifications for the photographs the yearbook staff requires of the seniors for the portrait section. Specifications: All photos must conform to the following specifications for inclusion in the yearbook. These specifications are in place to ensure a quality product. The yearbook staff reserves the right to request a different photography should the submitted photo not meet the following specifications. 1. The photo would be best sent as a jpeg. or brought in on a flash drive. The photo should be at least 1000x1000 pixels for clarity. 2. The photo should have 1/4" between the top of the head and the edge of the photo. This allows for proper placement of the photo. 3. Clear focus; no soft focus or misty effects. These treatments make the photograph look blurry and of poor quality. No hats, feet, arms, hands or props that might intrude upon the subject's face. A professional headshot is the goal. 4. Background should contrast with hair color. This avoids the "floating head" issue. For example, dark background for blondes, and light background for brunettes. A professional photographer will ensure that this is done properly. 5. An electronic submission with the student's name and Senior Photo in the subject line are preferred. ​Last month, 16 students from Siuslaw High School participated in codeORcreate, a three-day youth technology competition. Connected Lane County hosted 13 schools. At the end of the event, groups presented their projects to a panel of judges during a showcase.We had four groups participate in codeORcreate. Here are their results: Elevated Council received second place in APP design. Team members: Sean Martinez, Kai Diocson, Mateo Fort, Jordan Strickland, and Gabe Whitney. Bagels with Suits received second place in game design. Team members: Seamus Burke, Mykah Knabe, Rylan Pierce, and Christian Knapp. Team Fenrir received third place in game design. Our student representatives to the school board are Arelin Gates, Storm Kurth, Riley Olson, and Cort Waggoner.
