On Monday, October 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Siuslaw High School is holding our annual Financial Aid and Scholarship Information Night . You and your family members are invited to join us.   Here's the plan:  6:00 - Arrive, and talk with local scholarship providers including two of our biggest: Rotary and Western Lane Community Foundation. 6:15 - Hear brief presentations from a few of our local providers. 6:30 - A financial aid expert from Lane Community College will visit via Zoom to discuss FAFSA, Oregon Opportunity Grant, Oregon Promise, and college/university scholarships. 7:15 - Mr. Orr will say a few words about the Siuslaw Regional Scholarship Application (SRSA) 7:30 (approximately)
A COVID-19 vaccination event is being held at Siuslaw Middle School on Saturday, October 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. All individuals in Oregon ages 12+ are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Doses available include the first and second doses of Pfizer and Moderna and the single dose Johnson and Johnson. Though walk-ins are welcome, appointments are available at www.lanecounty.org/vaxclinics.
On Monday, October 11 (second Monday in October) we celebrate the history and contributions of Native Americans on Indigenous Peoples' Day. Native people continue to fight to maintain the integrity and viability of indigenous societies. American Indian history is one of cultural persistence, creative adaptation, renewal, and resilience.  Siuslaw School District appreciates the picture provided by the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians (ctclusi.org) of a local "Canoe Journey at Sunrise" that was incorporated into this posting.  We encourage you to visit the Abundance StoryMap on their website, which gives voice to their stories, culture, and enrichment of public school curriculum in Oregon.
It is not too late to register for at-home Covid testing for students. All students registered by Sunday, October 10 will have their testing supplies delivered to their school on Wednesday, October 13 for the upcoming weeks. Students participating in this OHA/UO COVID-19 Screening Testing Program should collect samples in the evening or before school in the morning. Lane African American Black Student Success is holding their first group meeting virtually (tinyurl.com/LaneBlackStudentParentNight) on Tuesday, October 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. They want to hear from parents about what they want and need from the Lane African American Black Student Success Plan for the 2021-2022 school year. This year their goal is to reach every African American/Black Student in Lane County.  Prizes will be raffled off during the evening. Free Covid Testing for K-12 Students: The Siuslaw School District has enrolled in the OHA/UO COVID-19 Screening Testing Program this year.  This is an optional, weekly saliva test, via a take-home test kit.  Please review this info/registration-flyer for more information.
Siuslaw High School Homecoming activities beginning Monday, October 4.   Monday is Sports Day.   Tuesday is Neon Day.   Wednesday is Western Day.   Thursday is Blue & Gold Day.
On Thursday, September 30, Siuslaw volleyball is hosting games (JV, JV2, and Varsity) versus Junction City beginning at 5 p.m. On Friday, October 1, Siuslaw football is hosting a game versus Cascade Christian starting at 7 p.m.   To attend the game(s), tickets must be ordered online at bit.ly/siuslawtickets.
Siuslaw School District is currently seeking a board member to fill position 1 of the Siuslaw School Board. The appointee will serve until June 30, 2023. Thursday, September 23, Siuslaw volleyball is hosting our first game of the season versus Marshfield. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m. To attend the JV and/or varsity games, tickets must be ordered/purchased online at bit.ly/siuslawtickets. Students attend for free but will still need to order a ticket online (enter your student ID as the promotional code). The cost of a tickets is $5.00 (plus a $1.49 processing fee) for all other attendees.
The first Siuslaw 2022 Project Grad Meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m. The Zoom link will be posted on the following Facebook page: Siuslaw High School Class of 2022. Parents are encouraged to join/like the Facebook page for updates.   We will be talking about upcoming fundraisers, forming committees, and begin discussing party destinations! Tomorrow morning, each of the Siuslaw schools will take a moment to remember the tragedy of September 11, 2001.  The elementary and middle schools will conduct their tributes around 8:40am in the morning, and the high school tribute will be nearer 10:00am.  There will be a reading over the intercom, in conjunction with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
