Siuslaw Elementary School Kindergarten Kick-Off is Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and students to meet teachers, tour classrooms, pickup a T-shirt for incoming kindergarteners, and to receive a grab-and-go dinner. A PUBLIC MEETING OF THE Budget Committee of the Siuslaw School District, Lane County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, will be held at the Siuslaw Middle School Commons, 2525 Oak St., Florence, Oregon. The meeting will take place on April 27, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to hear public input.
Friday, April 15 is the end of the third quarter and grading day for teachers at Siuslaw School District; therefore, students have no school.
Siuslaw Choir POPS is back! This Monday, April 11 at 7 p.m. on the Siuslaw Middle School stage, Siuslaw High School vocalists will present their spring POPS Concert, featuring select Viking singers in solo performances of the world's best popular music. These young musicians pick their songs and put together an evening of outstanding family-friendly entertainment every spring. This year promises to be extraordinary! Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted.
Lane County Public Health, in coordination with Florence Events Center, is holding vaccination events on April 13 and 16 by appointment only and also a third event on April 27. Conscious Discipline Parenting Classes start Tuesday, April 12, at the Pregnancy and Parenting Center from 12:30 to 2 PM; free childcare provided. The classes provide SEL (social emotional learning) foundations and resiliency in infants and toddlers. Students from Siuslaw School District are participating in Regional Oregon Battle of the Books Regional Tournaments on Saturday, April 9 and Saturday, April 16.  Siuslaw Elementary School students (McKenna Jones, Chloe Bilbrey, Afton Linton, Macie Moore, and Maren Hughes, alternate) and Siuslaw Middle School students (Abigail Jones, Seamus Burke, Vanessa Nobles, Darrell 'Gage' Mills, and Braylon Evans) are participating April 9. Siuslaw High School students (Jane Wilks, Berkley Tregoning, Daniel Gorbett, Lillie Leland, and Darcy Edman, alternate) are participating April 16.    We thank our school coaches at each site! Siuslaw Elementary School coaches are Greg Jorgenson and Kassy Keppol.  Siuslaw Middle School coaches are Kelly Dotson, Hilary Roach, and Ryan Roach. Siuslaw High School coaches are Kelly Joslin and Melanie Goeddel.
Eighth-grade students and families are invited to Siuslaw High School for an Open House for incoming ninth graders on Thursday, April 7. We will have two welcome sessions. The first session starts at 6:30 p.m. and the second starts at 7 p.m. These are repeated events intended to accommodate as many schedules as possible. We will review next steps in getting students registered for classes and offer tours of the building.

The Siuslaw Track and Field is hosting their First Annual Florence Street Vault event for high school pole vaulters on Wednesday, March 23 at noon on Bay Street between Maple and Laurel streets. All Latino/a-identifying high school students are invited to the 18th annual Raices Unidas Youth Conference which will be held virtually on Friday, April 15 from 12 to 2 p.m. Students can register by visiting tinyurl.com/VirtualRUYC. This event will consist of a keynote speaker, a first-generation student panel, and activities for students to embrace a community of Latinx peers across the State of Oregon. Students will also have the opportunity to expand their knowledge on issues and topics concerning their shared experiences.
